May 1893
1 Monday It was rainy to day, cleared off about 3 o clock PM. I went up to town to Trustee Meeting about buying Parsonage. Geo fixed some fence north of house and sharpened his tools.
2 Tuesday Geo drew manure this AM 4 loads. I went down to the woods to see how the pasture was. This PM we drew manure with 2 wagons, 10 loads.
3 Weds We drew manure with 2 wagons this AM 11 loads. This PM Geo plowed on Dr Whites with 3 horses. I went up to Lodge meeting this eve 1st Deg -4 candidates.
4 Thursday Geo plowed to day with 3 Horses on Dr Whites. Minnie and I went up to Mr Cupples to Dinner. We went from there to the Social at B. Church. Then to Opera House to Entertainment (‘Force of Impulse’) under the auspices of the G.A.R.

5 Friday It was rainy this morning for an hour or so. Geo made a gate. Then we drew 7 loads of manure this AM. This PM Geo plowed on Dr. Whites with 3 horses. I cut the lamb’s tails off and set some fence posts.
6 Saturday Geo plowed this AM with 3 horses on Dr Whites. I worked around at fixing up some fence n. of the house. This PM we took the cattle down to the woods. Took 2 of Lee McConnell I bought of him Apr 8. Gave my note of $35 payable on or before 2 mo from date.
7 Sunday We all went up to Church to day. This PM Minnie & I went over to Uncle John Margesons to see him a little while. Came back by the cemetery and drove around some. Called at John Heesons a little while.
8 Monday I took the sheep down to the woods this AM. I took dinner at Cornelius Pocklington’s. Geo plowed with 3 horses on Dr. Whites do day.
9 Tuesday I made a cultivator to work in the garden to day. I went up to town this PM to get the teeth fixed for cultivator. Mother Gates came down to day on the 4 PM train.
{Clarissa Gates was Minnie’s mother. May 9th would have been May’s 11th birthday. May was Doug’s mother. She always said she was named Clarissa May for her 2 grandmothers Clarissa Cordelia Whiting Gates and Mary Jane Benedict Garlinghouse}
10 Weds I cultivated the onions this AM. This PM I spread manure in field No. 7. Geo finished plowing in Dr. Whites this AM. This PM Geo plowed in field No. 7. This eve Minnie, the Girls & I went up to Uncle John Benedict’s. Rhoda was married this eve to Arthur Dance.
11 Thurs I spread manure this AM in field No. 7. Geo plowed. This PM Geo & I drew manure 10 loads on field No. 7.
12 Friday Geo and I drew manure this AM. This PM Geo plowed with 3 horses in field No. 7. I spread some and went to town after some groceries. Alice G. Satterthwaite came here this PM.
13 Saturday Geo plowed to day with 3 horses in field No. 7. I spread manure this AM and put up some fence east of pond, east of barn. This PM Alice and Minnie took A.Bs horse, went over to Mr. E. Russells and to town.
14 Sunday Minnie, the Girls and I went up to church to day. This PM the Girls and I went down to the woods and salted the sheep. This Eve I drove Susie over to Mr. A. Taylors.
15 Monday Geo and I drew manure and finished covering the corn field No. 7 this PM. Geo finished the day’s work by spreading manure. I went over to R.M. Boyds and bought 3 bu ear corn for seed. Bought 3 bags of bran of Boyd & Root (did not pay for the bran).
16 Tuesday I went up and finished spreading manure on field No. 7 this AM and fixed up some fence n. of house. This PM I hunted red root in fields nos 1 & 2. Geo plowed all day with 3 horses.
17 Weds I worked some in the garden this AM and shelled some see corn. Geo finished plowing for corn this AM in field No. 7. This PM I went up to town and Geo dragged with 3 horses in field No. 7. Bought lawn mower of Whitenack & Co at $4.00.
18 Thurs I finished mowing the front yard with the lawn mower this AM. Geo dragged in field No 7 with 2 horses till about 3 oclock PM. Then he went to planting corn. I marked field No. 7 out this PM. Mother Garlinghouse was down to day.

19 Friday Geo harrowed with the Spring tooth to day with 3 horses on Dr. Whites for corn. I finished planting corn in field No. 7 this PM.
20 Saturday Geo harrowed with the spring tooth to day with 3 horses on Dr. Whites. I planted some cane seed in field No. 7 and a few hills of melons this AM. This PM I looked on field No. 6 for red root. This eve Minnie, May B {Benedict} & I went up to town.
21 Sunday Minnie, the Girls & I went up to church to day. This PM the Boys and I went down to the woods to look after the cattle.
22 Monday Geo harrowed with 3 horses this AM. This PM he dragged with 2 horses and I marked out corn ground on Dr. Whites.
23 Tuesday Geo and I went down to Dr.Whites to drag and mark. A heavy rain storm came up and wet us to the hide fore we got in about 7:30 AM. This PM Geo pulled red root from field No. 8. I took heating stove back to Whitenacks, had the horses shoes reset in front.
24 Weds Geo went down and finished dragging for corn on Dr. Whites this morn. The he planted corn the rest of day down there. I marked it out ready for us both to plant. This PM I planted corn. I went up to Chapter meeting this eve.
25 Thurs Geo and I finished planting corn on Dr Whites about 3:15 PM to day. Geo furrowed out for potatoes and I mowed the front yard. Minnie and I went up to E. Star meeting this eve.
26 Friday It was damp and rainy this AM. Geo fixed new screen on the screen doors this AM. Pulled red root from field No. 5 this PM. Minnie and I went up to Mr. I.H. Schreeders to Fanners Club. This eve I went to Lodge Meeting. Minnie brought the Girls up to Grandmothers and waited for me after Lodge.

27 Saturday Geo plowed and dragged the little patch for corn north of the garden, planted some peas & set out some tomatoe plants. I finished mowing the front yard and fooled with the colt. This PM Geo planted potatoes in field No. 7 (2 bu). I & May B. went up to town & I took 6 bu wheat to mill for grist.
28 Sunday Frank Bryan and I went up to Manchester to Masonic Decoration. About 12 bro went from Tecumseh.
29 Monday Geo and I went down to the woods to day. I took the Colt Prince down to the woods to pasture. We laid over some line fence between H. Holdridge and ours. We brought home 1 ½ cords wood that ? cut.
30 Tuesday Geo cultivated the garden and early potatoes this AM. I went over to M. Smithzers and got his hog. This PM Mother Gates, Minnie, I, Geo & May went up to town to Decoration. Paid G.J. Benedict Ten Dollars.

31 Weds Geo finished planting our potatoes. This AM planted some sweet corn in garden and dug some grass out in raspberries. I went up and helped J.K. Waldron shingle his barn to day.
