December 1893

1 Friday I chored around to day. Minnie and the girls went up to town this PM. The Girls had their pictures taken. I made a sled for Otto this PM, drew some straw in the yard for manure this AM.

2 Saturday I chored around this AM. This PM the Boys and I went up to town. The Boys set to have their pictures taken, then they went up to Mr Cupples and staid while I went to Meeting at the Church. It began to snow about 3 o’clock some.

3 Sunday It snowed last night so that the snow was 12 or 14 in. deep on the level. It took me most of the time to day to shovel paths and do the chores. We all staid at home.

4 Monday I fixed stanchions to fasten the steers up in the shed to day and went over to O.B’s and helped him set up his coal stove. Aunt Nancy Benedict died this Eve at 10 o’clock; sick about 4 hrs. (Paralasis)

5 Tuesday I chored around this AM, received word that Aunt Nancy Benedict died yesterday, funeral tomorrow. This PM I went down to Charley Chase’s to meeting of the Town Board. I went with cutter, my first sleigh ride.

6 Weds I chored around this AM. This PM I went up to town. Aunt Nancy Benedict was buried this PM.

7 Thurs I chored around this AM and took sow up to Frank M. Bryans for a sleigh ride.

8 Friday I fixed big tank to day, put new scanthing under and leveled it up.

9 Saturday Geo & I cut corn on Dr. Whites today. May came down after Geo and he staid all night up to town.

10 Sunday The girls and I went to Church today. May brought Geo back this eve with Uncle John’s horse and buggy.

11 Monday It was stormy this AM. I helped Minnie about the washing, done chores the rest of the day.

12 Tuesday Chored around and O.B. came over and helped kill a pig this PM. I went up to town, called on Mother and G.J. Benedict, paid him balance due for summer’s work $26.50. This eve Mr & Mrs J. Heeson & J.K. Waldron & wife called and spent the eve. Mrs. H.A. Smith called this PM.

13 Weds I chored around and made sausage – 30 lbs. A beautiful day.

14 Thurs Chored around this AM. This PM Minnie and I went up to town and up to Frank Bryans a little while. They were both sick with the Gripp.

15 Friday I chored around and tried to fix the pump at the Windmill to day, but did not get it finished. It was a rainy day most of the day, warm and took the sleighing all off.

16 Saturday Done chores, made a grip to hold gas pipe, took the pump up and put and put on a new seal valve; got it to pumping about 2:30 PM. This PM Minnie & the Girls went up to town. The wind blew hard and froze all day some.

17 Sunday We all went to Church and S.S. today with horse and buggy. It was a snowy day.

18 Monday It was a cool and blustering this AM. I helped some about the washing this AM. This PM Minnie & I went up to town.

19 Tuesday I fixed window in Hen house and cleaned it out this AM. This PM I went down to the woods and see McIntire & Cadmus cutting wood, paid them Five Dollars $5.00. This eve I went up to town. Minnie bought me a new cap for a Christmas present.

20 Weds I chored around and took Fannie down to Mr. Taylors this AM. The PM I took 8 bu ears corn, 4 bu oats & 2 wheat up to steam mill and had it ground. This eve I went up to Chapter Meeting. Election of Officers, was elected M.3.V.

21 Thurs I had a sore toe. One of the steers stepped on it last night and made it very sore so I could not wear a boot. Worked on Secy’s Books of T.C. No 42. This eve Minnie and I went up to Chapter meeting of E. Star. Initiated one candidate, Dr. W.D. Reed.

22 Friday I done chores & c and worked on Report to send to Grand Chapter. This eve I went up to Lodge Meeting Election Officers, was appointed M.3.V.

23 Saturday Chored around this AM. Calvin O. Bovoe was her this AM. I hired him to work for me this coming summer at $20.00 per month, he to begin in the spring when season would permit.

24 Sunday We all went to Church today. Muddy and warm.

25 Monday It was a warm fine day. The wind blew quite hard from the S.W. Ben came down this AM with Christmas presents for all of us. This PM we all went up to Mothers a little while. Then we all went up to Church to Oyster Supper.

26 Tuesday I chored around this AM. This PM I went up to Church to Annual Meeting. Clem Bramble was elected Trustee in my place. This eve I went up to town to Special Chap Meeting, Instalation of Officers.

27 Weds Staid at home and done chores is all for this day.

28 Thurs Mother, Ben & Burt and Uncle and Aunt J.W. Benedict were down and took dinner with us to day.

29 Friday I went down to Mr. Pocklingtons and had him come up and help me draw hay around 3 loads in Horse barn, 1 in sheep shed & 1 over box stall. The Girls went up to their Grandmothers this AM. The Boys went up to town after the mail this PM.

30 Saturday I chored around this AM. This PM I went up to town. Burt brought the Girls home. May was not feeling very well. {Ethelyn would have been 11 years old on this day}

31 Sunday We all went up to Church to day.
