August 1893
1 Tuesday Geo plowed & rolled most of the day in No. 2 with 3 horses. We drew in rest of oats from No. 7 after dinner -- 2 loads. I thinned out corn on Dr. Whites this AM. Mr & Mrs Strong called this eve; paid me $5.00 rent, the Germans paid him an order on Town Treas for $36.02.
2 Weds I thinned out corn on Dr. White’s this AM and this PM I went up to town. Geo plowed in No. 2 with 3 horses to day. This eve Minnie & I went over to Mr. Rogers. Sold a tub of butter to McClure for 20¢ per lb.
3 Thursday Geo plowed to day in No 2 with 3 horses. I went over to Chas Waldens & Wm McKendrie’s this morning and chored around some. This PM I went up to P.O. mailed a letter to L.W. Chase.
4 Friday Geo and I helped M. Smeltzer thrash to day. We finished at 2:30 PM. Then we took a load of rails up and fixed line fence between Geo Sisson’s farm and our own. Then burnt oat stubble in No. 7.
5 Saturday Geo finished plowing in No. 2 with 3 horses this AM. This PM he rolled and tinkered around some. I dug early potatoes in garden this AM. This PM I went up to town a little while. The eve Geo & May went down to C.W. B. and staid all night.
6 Sunday We all went up to Church to day. Minnie and the girls went up to Church this eve.
7 Monday Geo and I dug potatoes in No. 7 this AM. This PM Geo & May & Minnie & I attended Uncle John Margeson’s Funeral held at the Baptist Church at 1:30 o’clock PM. D.T. Hall, J.T. Boyce, Frank Clarkson, O.B. Finch, B.A. & G.B. Garlinghouse as pall bearers.
8 Tuesday Geo & I worked on the road to day. O.B. Finch paid me $5.00 for road work done last year on this place $3.50 and $1.50 of this year’s work.
9 Weds Geo & I worked on the road for O.B. this AM. This PM O.B., Dell & Calvin & Team helped me draw gravel and put in drive to the road. Minnie went up to town and brought Carrie, Lulu & Edna down. They staid till eve. Minnie and the girls took them home. This PM Geo thrashed for Mr. Strong.
10 Thurs I went down to the woods and got a load of buzz wood & salted stock. Minnie went up and got Mrs Cupples and Florence. They went home this eve.
11 Friday Geo was sick and did not work any to day. I went over to Mr. Strong’s and helped him thrash this AM. 2 ? hrs work. Did not do much of anything the rest of the day. It rained some this PM.
12 Saturday I spent most of the day up to town. Geo drew manure to day in field No. 7. I paid S.P. Hosiner Ten Dollars in full of a/c to date.
13 Sunday We all went up to Church to day.
14 Monday Geo and I drew manure to field No. 7 to day. Minnie & the girls went up to town this eve after G.
15 Tuesday Geo & I drew manure this AM. This PM I went up to town and Geo drew manure alone on No. 7. Minnie went over to Mr. Rogers this PM and the Girls went up to J.K. Waldron’s.
16 Weds O.B. & I went to look up thrashers, did not engage any. Burt came down and borrowed 29 bags. C.W. Benedict and Family came and made us a visit to day.
17 Thurs I drew a load of straw up to Mr. Vedder this AM. Geo tore down barnyard fence on east side of yard while I was gone. Then we drew a load of hay from over the box stall and put in horse barn. Then Geo went to dragging in No. 2.
18 Friday I cut some thistles & weeds in No. 5 this AM & O.B. & I went to see the thrashers. Geo dragged in No. 2 to day 2nd time over. This PM I went up to town.
19 Saturday Geo gathered the onions (we had about 5 ? bu in all) and some other jobs this AM. This PM he went down to the woods and salted the cattle & sheep and brought home a load of wood. I cut old brush out of raspberries this AM and went up to town this eve.
20 Sunday Geo staid at home and the rest of us went to Church. Arthur Pardington preached.
21 Monday Geo & I helped O.B. Finch thrash to day. He had 680 bu wheat and 164 bu oats. Ed Sisson thrashed this PM. I had 2 men go from S. Bangs to him for me.
22 Tuesday I had neuralgia in my face & back so bad I did not try to work any to day. Geo dug potatoes in No. 7 to day. Alice Garlinghouse came here this PM. Union S.S. Picnic at Devil’s Lake to day.
23 Weds I finished digging early potatoes in No. 7 this AM about 9:30. Geo went over and helped Mr. James Colvin thrash for Aaron Taylor to day.
24 Thurs Geo moved wheat that was in SE corner bin to center of granary on West side this morn. Then he & I went up to Frank Bryan’s and helped him thrash the rest of the day, commenced about 10:30 AM. Minnie went up to town and got her new teeth and to Star Lodge this eve. I went up after her this eve.
25 Friday Geo & I went and helped F. Bryan finish thrashing. We got through about 2 PM. I went down to the woods and salted the stock. Geo tore down barn yard fence.
26 Saturday Geo and I made place for a hog nest under the straw stack this AM. This PM Geo cut brush around the fence on the place. I went up to town this PM & staid this eve. Our folks came up after supper. Ball Game -- Tecumseh & Chilton.
27 Sunday We all went to Church to day. A young Persian preached, told of how they do and worship in his country.
28 Monday Geo drew gravel and put on drive between the house & road this AM. This PM he partly hung two pair of blinds on house. I helped Minnie wash and Geo some this AM. This PM Minnie & I drove over to F.M. Bryan’s, hitched our horses together and went down to Dundee to Chapter Order Eastern Star, had a nice time.
29 Tuesday Geo went over and helped Mr. Bangs thrash to day. I went down and helped Cornelius about thrashing. We got as our share of wheat, 98 bu. as it came from machine.
30 Weds Geo went over and helped Mr. Bangs thrash to day. I went down to Mr. Pocklingtons and drew the rest of wheat home this AM. This PM I took down scaffolding in box stall. Mr. F.D. Strong was over this eve.
31 Thurs I went down to C.W.B’s and got some sweet corn and took some up for Mother. Geo worked on the blinds on west side of house this AM. This PM we fixed granary & other chores.
