The first entry is a transcript of the journal of Gurdon B. Garlinghouse, born in 1854 in Lenawee County, Michigan. He married Minnie Gates in 1879 and they had four children: May, 1881; Ethelyn, 1882; Otto, 1885 and Arnet, 1888.

The journal is being transcribed by Holly Wilson Sweet, great-grand-daughter of Gurdon and Minnie, beginning January 2005. Notes are in brackets are Holly's.

Excerpt from journal - January 1893

1 Sunday It snowed all day. We all staid at home all the day long. This eve the snow is about seven in deep.

2 Monday It was a snowy day. I took the Children to school this morn and went up to town {Tecumseh} to mail some letters. This P.M. I made three pr of mittens out of a grain sack.
